Occupier’s Licence

The Occupier's Licence has been abolished under the Electricity Safety (Registration & Licensing) Regulations 2010, and therefore is no longer available.

Can I still Renew?

ESV will forward a renewal notice to your last known address at least 2 months prior to the expiry date of the current licence. It is, however, your responsibility to ensure your licence is kept up to date at all times. ESV will continue to issue this licence as a renewal of existing licence holders only.

Failure to renew on time will see the licence revoked, Electricity Safety (Registration & Licensing) Regulations 2010.

The renewal fee is $169.80 for five years.

Your responsibilities as an Occupiers Licence Holder

As an Occupiers’ licence holder, it is your responsibility to understand the legislation and regulations in place at any time and work in accordance with them:

  • Part 3 of the Electricity Safety Act 1998
  • Electricity Safety (Installations) Regulations 2009.
  • For any electrical installation work carried out on the occupier’s electrical installation, a certificate of electrical safety for either prescribed or non-prescribed electrical installation work must be completed and certified by the licence holder that the completed electrical installation work has been tested and complies with the Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000), the legislation and regulations. Where prescribed electrical installation work is carried out, the licence holder must engage a licensed electrical inspector to undertake an electrical inspection.
