Supervised Worker's Licence

A Supervised Worker's Licence entitles the holder (in accordance with any further conditions on the licence) to carry out all electrical installation work in Victoria under the effective supervision of a licensed electrician. This licence is issued for a maximum of three years and may not be renewed.


Application for a Supervised Worker’s Licence

You can apply for a licence if you meet one of the following criteria: 

Criteria 1

  • Completed a four year contract of training as an electrical fitter, and
    Holds a Certificate III in Electrical (Electrical Fitter) or equivalent; and
  • Satisfactorily completed a practical examination in safely disconnecting and reconnecting electrical equipment conducted by a body approved by ESV .

Criteria 2

  • Completed a four year contract of training as an apprentice electrician, that included at least 12 months experience in electrical installation work;
  • Partially completed the Certificate III in Electrotechnology-Systems Electrician; and
  • Satisfactorily completed a practical examination in safely disconnecting and reconnecting electrical equipment conducted by a body approved by ESV.

Criteria 3

  • The person's standard of qualifications, proficiency and experience in electrical installation work is at least of an equivalent standard to that required under the points 1 and 2 above.

 

Applying to be Licensed

Criteria 1 – an application form should be lodged with ESV, with the following:

  • The Certificate of Completion of an apprenticeship from the Office of Training and Further Education;
  • Certificate III in Electrical (Electrical Fitter) or equivalent;
  • Evidence of satisfactorily completing a practical examination in safely disconnecting and reconnecting an electrical installation; and
  • Application fee.

Criteria 2 – An application form should be lodged with ESV, with the following:

  • The Certificate of Completion of an apprenticeship from the Office of Training and Further Education;
  • Evidence of 12 months experience in carrying out electrical installation work (for example: Letter from employer giving details);
  • Evidence of satisfactorily completing a practical examination in safely disconnecting and reconnecting an electrical installation;
  • Evidence of undertaking a course of training for schooling from a Recognised Training Provider; and
  • Application fee.

Critera 3

  • An application form should be lodged with ESV, demonstrating the equivalent standard of qualifications, proficiency and experience in electrical installation work; and
  • Application fee.

 

My Supervised Workers Licence has expired - what do I do?

A Supervised Workers Licence is issued for a period of up to 3 years to allow you to finalise the requirements of your training and the Licensed Electrician's Assessment (LEA) in order to be upgraded to an Electrician's Licence. 

ESV understand that life can get in the way, and there may be reasons as to why you have cannot and have not completed the outstanding requirements of you to be upgraded to an Electrician's Licence.

ESV determine the length and time of your Supervised Workers Licence upon application and this may be a maximum of 3 years to a minimum of a 6 month period.  Subsequent applications are reviewed by management and ESV expect that you will have made progress to be upgraded during your previous licence period.

Should you wish to re-apply for a Supervised Workers Licence, you will need to submit all your documents in accordance with the criteria above, together the a covering letter, which states your undertaking over the last licence period and your intentions if ESV agree to re-issue another Supervised Workers Licence to you.  Your letter should be as detailed as possible.

Fees

The application fee must be paid at the time your application for a licence is submitted.  The fee for Supervised Workers Licence is currently $203.80, with a $70.00 non refundable application fee.
