Changes to the supply of hoverboards in Victoria from 1 July
ESV has gazetted changes to the Electricity Safety Act 1998, which require all self-balancing scooters sold in Victoria to meet specific safety requirements. From 1 July, suppliers who wish to sell these products in Victoria will need to apply to ESV for a Certificate of Compliance (also known as a Certificate of Suitability) that, when granted, will indicate that their product is approved and meets the safety requirements specified by ESV. Fire Resistant Boards – Promatect H, Promina, Bellis and Supalux
A potential fire risk exists where PROMATECT H, PROMINA (also supplied as BELLIS) or SUPALUX fire resistant boards have been used as protection for combustible materials behind the stainless steel splashbacks adjacent to commercial catering appliances. Where appliances are discharging combustion products from the rear there is a specific risk that combustible members contained within the wall may experience unsafe temperatures.
Testing and examination by ESV has found that these products may not comply with the requirements of AS/NZS 5601.1:2013 Appendix C. Refer to Promat’s technical notice HERE for further information.
ESV launches latest campaign
The Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D'Ambrosio, launched our newest safety campaign titled “DIY=DIE” last week in Shepparton.
This campaign carries the important message that you should ALWAYS use a licensed electrician and NEVER undertake your own electrical work.
We’re targeting farmers with the message that doing your own electrical work is not only illegal - it can also be fatal.
DIY = DIE applies to everyone.
