How Energy Safe Victoria will process the application

When ESV receives your application, it will be checked that the required information has been provided and the application is complete.

Incomplete or incorrect applications will be returned and will not be processed; however during the new application form implementation phase we will attempt to solve minor errors such as postcode errors via a phone call or email.

The application is then registered, allocated a job number and issued to an inspector.

The inspector will assess the application with the assistance of a software program and determine the risk profile of your application.

Your application will be categorized into one of the following risk categories:

  • High
  • Medium
  • Low

For complex gas installations, please allow 5 working days to process your application. For Type B appliances, please allow 10 working days to process your application.

High risk complex gas installations and Type B appliances

These will be inspected as per ESV’s current procedure. For a complex gas installation, one or more inspections of the installation may be required before an ESV number is provided. An ESV number is required before gas supply can be ordered from the gas retailer.

Medium to Low risk complex gas installations and Type B appliances.

These applications will be conditionally accepted. ESV will set certain conditions based on the work being done, e.g. for a complex gas installation, in addition to a Statement of Compliance, you may be requested to provide a Consumer Test Report Sheet and or a letter confirming the method or material used to protect combustible surfaces.

ESV will advise you of the set conditions (and provide any relevant forms i.e. Consumer Piping Test Report) and provide the ESV number without an inspection. For a complex gas installation, this will enable you to arrange your gas supply with the retailer at a time that suits you and your customer.

ESV will expect you to meet the set conditions within a few days of the installation being completed.

When the set conditions have been met, the installation will be accepted and closed off and entered into a database.

The installation may be selected for an audit sometime in the future.
