Implementing the new process

To provide adequate time for the industry to become accustomed to the new application and acceptance process, ESV will introduce the new application and acceptance process in a number of stages.

Stage One

Notify the gas industry of the changes and provide information to inform stakeholders.

Letters have been sent to all registered plumbers and gasfitters. The letter briefly describes the changes and invites the plumber or gasfitter to register interest in attending a seminar.

Information sheets have been set up with an easy to find icon on our web site. The information sheets describe in greater detail the changes, and how ESV will process applications for complex gas installations and Type B appliances.

Seminars and information sessions will be organised.

Stage Two

The new application form will be accepted from July 2010. The existing Start Work and Compliance Notices will continue to be accepted until 30th November 2010, however we encourage applicants to use the new form as from 1st December 2010, only applications made on the new application form will be accepted. Pre existing Start Work Notices sent to ESV after this time will be rejected and returned to the applicant.

All applications on the new application form will be risk assessed and categorised into Low, Medium or High; however up to 30 November 2010, ESV will continue to do inspections as described in section 5 of this document.

Stage Three

From 1 December 2010, applications that are Low or Medium risk will be conditionally accepted, and may be audited as described in section 6 of this document.

Applications that are High risk will continue to be inspected.
