ESV’s electrical apprentice safety campaign

Why we started an apprentice safety campaign

ESV’s electrical apprentice safety campaign was launched in response to a frightening rise in incidents and fatalities of young electrical workers. In an 18 month period over 2015-16 our installation safety team investigated four electrical worker fatalities, three of those workers were apprentices and all four were under 25 years of age.

The key messages are:

  • NEVER work live
  • Test before you touch
  • Lock out tag out

Apprentice Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) kit

Electrical apprentice lock out tag out kit

To help electrical apprentices work safely and reinforce the safe work practices taught by registered training organisations, ESV is providing each new apprentice who commenced training in 2017 with one ESV apprentice LOTO kit. Each apprentice LOTO kit contains:

  • 1 pair of low voltage insulating gloves
  • 1 Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) kit
  • The ESV LOTO safety guide

How to get your apprentice LOTO kit

If you’re eligible for one of our LOTO kits it will be issued to you by your RTO. Next time you’re in class ask your teacher about the kits and the apprentice safety program.

Your RTO will ask you to fill in a form with your contact details. You MUST provide this information before a LOTO kit is provided to you. By doing so you are agreeing to receive important industry information from Energy Safe Victoria.
