Certificates of Electrical Safety (COES)
ESV has compiled a list of FAQs on Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES). If your query is not addressed below, please contact us.

If you require a copy of your certificate, and you are the owner or occupant of a property or the customer, you can request a copy.

A certificate must be provided for all electrical installation work and issued within 30 calendar days of the completion of that work.

Paper certificates can only be lodged over the phone on 1300 360 366. See Further instructions on how to do this.

Paper certificates may be purchased from authorised agents.

Electronic draft certificates or EIC’s can be self-amended during the certification process.
- Electronic final certificates with an N or P number cannot be amended.
- Paper certificates that have been lodged and copies distributed cannot be amended.

Email coes@energysafe.vic.gov.au requesting cancellation. Include details of the certificate number and the reason for the certificate cancellation request.

Email coes@energysafe.vic.gov.au requesting a transfer(1) of certificates. Please include details of licence numbers, number of certificates and date of purchase.
(1) Note: only unused certificates can be transferred.

If you do not have your licence User ID, pin number or password, please email a request for details to: coes@energysafe.vic.gov.au.
Please include your Licence number, date of birth and current address, and we will provide you with your User ID details.
