Below is a list of courses accepted by ESV as meeting the requirements for a person to be responsible for the business management and administration of electrical contracting work.
This list of courses is not a complete list and other courses may be acceptable.
To be accepted, a course must cover the majority of the following aspects of running a business.
Formal processes to meet technical, managerial, occupational and workplace relations obligations in a contracting business including:
- Records
- Taxation
- Budgeting
- Project Management Factors influencing the performance of a contracting business
- Regulations for electrical work
- Assessing and mitigating risk
- Legal options for the business structure
- Focus of the business
- Legal rights and responsibilities
- Insurance requirements
- Preparing marketing plans
- Estimating
- Profit margins

Note: Course codes marked with an * are superseded courses. While they may be no longer available for new enrolments, ESV will still accept them for REC business nominee registration purposes.
Experience
If the business supervisors does not hold the above qualification, they may also apply under experience.
Evidence is required demonstrating that the nominated business supervisor has managed an electrical contracting business for a minimum of five years or more. In this instance, a detailed account of the experience on a separate sheet is required to be submitted with the nomination form:
