Amendment 3 of AS/NZS 5601.1. was published on the 24 April 2020 and is an amendment to Appendix R 'Spillage Test for Flued Appliances'. The amended appendix introduces a 'baseline conditions test' that is to be conducted prior to testing for negative pressure. The purpose of the 'baseline conditions test' is to establish whether there are any environmental conditions such as wind gusts or a significant temperature differential between indoors and outdoors that could affect the pattern of smoke during a smoke test. The 'baseline conditions test' helps the practitioner to establish if the smoke pattern during a negative pressure test is a result of environmental conditions, or a result of the operation of exhaust fans and kitchen rangehoods. The appendix also provides information on combustion products spillage indicators. For instance, in addition to carbon monoxide being an indicator of spillage, an increase in carbon dioxide or a decrease in oxygen within a room could also be an indicator of combustion products spillage.
