Electrolux Home Products Pty Ltd has undertaken a voluntary recall of two products following Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) investigations into safety issues relating to its Westinghouse-branded black tempered glass gas cooktops, models WHG638BC and WHG958BC.
These products have been on the market since February 2020.
ESV’s findings were that these appliances were constructed with a glass hob that does not comply with the requirements that apply to toughened glass hotplates in the Australian Standard for domestic gas cooking appliances AS/NZS 5263.1.1.
The glass may shatter flinging sharp shards that could cause serious injuries.
If you have a Westinghouse black tempered glass gas cooktop, check the model number, which is found on the base of the unit. If it is WHG638BC or WHG958BC you need to contact Electrolux to arrange for a service technician to attend free of charge to replace the product or for a refund.
If you can’t find the model number, compare your hotplate with the photos in the recall notice below.
