Victoria's Director of Energy Safety announces retirement

Tuesday 10 September 2019 3:19pm

Statement from Paul Fearon

Yesterday I announced my intention to retire as Victoria’s Director of Energy Safety.

I will step down this November. This date marks the ten year anniversary of my appointment. My decision has been a long time in the planning.

While I am sad to go, making this announcement now allows the government sufficient time to search for a replacement and ensure a smooth leadership transition. This is particularly important as Victoria moves into what will be a very busy bushfire season.

uI am very proud of what ESV has achieved over the last decade. The support of colleagues, the community and other stakeholders has been reflected in improved safety outcomes achieved for community and our industry.

ESV is well positioned to embrace the future energy world with confidence. We have been given more resources and the mandate to better engage with the community, and regulate more effectively. This is vital as we all grapple with the impact of climate change, new and emerging technologies and a transforming energy industry.
