Notification of gas appliance issues

Important information for gasfitters and gas industry professionals.

Overview

After extensive testing, in Winter 2019 Energy Safe Victoria issued safety alerts on five open-flued gas heaters (OFGSHs), in addition to two earlier safety alerts issued on other heaters. Read the safety alerts here.

Working closely with industry participants demonstrated to Energy Safe the value of gathering intelligence on appliance trends from the broader gas appliance industry professionals, who regularly encounter a range of gas appliances in their day-to-day work.

Gasfitters input informed amendments which were introduced to Australian Standards AS/NZS5263.1.3 and AS/NZS5263.1.8 on 12 November 2021, with additional requirements for OFGSHs.

Gas Appliance issues notification form

To facilitate knowledge sharing between industry and Energy Safe we have developed a Gas Appliance Issues Notification form.

Type A or Type B appliance technicians can use this form to notify Energy Safe of trends in gas appliances or components failures they are aware of. Depending on the nature of the notification we may actively investigate the matter or monitor the situation to identify and understand trends in the data.

Gasfitter hotline

This form does not replace the 24/7 Emergency hotline for gasfitters to notify Energy Safe of dangerous gas installations. The hotline number is 1800 652 563, then select option 5.
