Incident reporting and site preservation guidelines

We are seeking feedback on draft Incident reporting and site preservation guidelines.

New rules to preserve sites of serious energy incidents are coming soon

These rules will apply for electricity suppliers and gas companies.

From 16 May 2024 new duties come into effect requiring electricity suppliers and gas companies to preserve the site of incidents they report to Energy Safe Victoria in certain circumstances.

Energy Safe is developing guidelines to assist electricity suppliers and gas companies to understand and comply with their duties. We are seeking feedback on draft Incident reporting and site preservation guidelines before they are finalised and published by 16 May.

Major electricity companies (MECs) (which are electricity suppliers) should also refer to the MEC incident and safety performance reporting guidelines – see: Electrical Safety Management Schemes

Those guidelines set out additional detail about how MECs must report serious electrical incidents to Energy Safe.
