Overview
It is the responsibility of the licensed individual or business to ensure ESV is informed of any changes to their registration information, such as business type, contact details or the addition of a nominee.
Most changes to registration details can be requested by the REC's business supervisor via when they log into their profile and access the REC. All required supporting documentation must be attached as a PDF file.
Alternatively, changes to registration details together with supporting documentation can be sent to us via email at licensing@energysafe.vic.gov.au
Changing the type of registration
Sole trader to a partnership
If the business structure is changing from a sole trader to a partnership, the following details are required:
- A letter signed by a currently listed business supervisor for the REC (preferably on the business' letterhead) requesting this change. The letter must include the partners' full names, dates of birth, addresses and be signed by all partners.

Partnership to a sole trader
If the business is changing from a partnership to a sole trader, the following details are required:
- A letter signed by a currently listed business supervisor for the REC (preferably on the business' letterhead) requesting this change. The letter must include the details of the sole trader's full name, date of birth and address. The letter must be signed by all partners and the new sole trader.

Sole trader or partnership to a company
If the business is changing from a sole trader or partnership to a company, the following details are required:
- A letter signed by a currently listed business supervisor for the REC (preferably on the business'/company's letterhead) requesting this change. The letter must include the company name, the Australian Company Number (ACN) for the company and any associated trading/business names.

- ESV requires all registered electrical contractors applying for company registration to acknowledge in writing that they understand that, by changing to a company or applying as a company, the registration number allocated cannot be transferred to a sole trader, partnership or other company registration. It can only be used for a new company name when the same ACN is retained. The request for a change to a company must be signed by the business supervisor for the REC or the company's director, or by a person suitably authorised to act on the company director's behalf.

If changing your registration type, consider whether you need to update the following:
- ABN
- Stationery
- Vehicles (advertising)
- Insurance details.
Changing of company name
It is important to note that if a company wishes to change its company name, it can only be done if the Australian Company Number (ACN) for the new company is the same as the previous company that was registered. If the ACN for the new company is different to the previous company, then you will be required to apply for a new REC registration for the new company.
As long as the ACN for the new company is the same as that for previous company, you may request the change of company name by providing the following details:
- A letter signed by a currently listed business supervisor for the REC (preferably on the business'/company's letterhead) requesting this change. The letter must include the company name, the Australian Company Number (ACN) for the company and any associated trading/business names.
Adding a business name
To add a business name, the following details are required:
- A letter signed by a currently listed business supervisor for the REC (preferably on the business'/company's letterhead) requesting this change. The letter must include the business name to be added and the Australian Business Number (ABN)
